About Jess Williams Photography

Jess Williams taking a photograph on the beach Background

Jess Williams Photography has been created mainly as a result of encouragement from family and friends who have been able to see potential in my photography long before I felt confident this was a possibility. Most of the credit should go to my husband, Andy. Firstly he has very generously bought most of my camera equipment for me over the last four or five Christmases and birthdays (maybe because he got fed up of my constant borrowing of his cameras...). A few years ago he also had the original idea of having one of the first photos I'd taken with my macro lens (the frog picture on this website) enlarged onto canvas and mounted on a wooden frame; and so I had my first taste of how effective canvas prints can be.

The canvas prints I'm selling here are from a collection of photos that has come together over the last 5 years. You'll notice I have developed a particular passion for macro photography which naturally lends itself to both flower and underwater subjects. Living in the North Welsh countryside, I have plenty of outdoor inspiration and nearby gardens in which to find interesting flowers - and the National Gardens Scheme is a great way to gain access to other people's gardens and therefore masses more potential subjects. On the diving side of things I have visited the Red Sea, Tobago and Fiji to name but a few places - and with some guidance from Martin Edge (a renowned underwater photographer) my skills have really developed, especially since acquiring a Subal Housing to fit my Nikon D200 camera.

Jess Williams underwater photography Sizes

I have set standard sizes, on a one-and-a-half inch deep frame, for ease of purchasing on the website - but if you have any specific requirements or are looking for something in particular, such as a deeper frame, do let me know. I have a large number of varied photos that are not displayed on the website and may suit your needs, and the canvases can be made to different measurements. Likewise if you have seen one of my photos hanging somewhere but can't find it on the website, do get in touch. Also if you like a picture but would like it in a different colour variation, I will try and accommodate that. I can also get any of the pictures made into Triptych style - i.e. the same picture split into three parts to hang next to each other.

Canvas Details

These canvases are put together by hand, using high quality and durable inks and canvas, which is stretched on to a sturdy wooden frame. They are of a noticeably more solid and overall higher quality than the mass-produced canvases that are found in home furnishing stores. Depending on the photo, the canvases are printed and wrapped around the frame in one of three ways: the first is the 'gallery wrap' effect, where the whole picture is enlarged and extended around the edges of the frame. The second, when perhaps the subject in the photo is too close to the edge and therefore the whole image needs to be on the front of the canvas, the sides are a plain colour, often black. A third option is 'mirroring' - where again the whole photograph is on the front of the canvas, but the outermost few inches of the photo are mirrored onto the sides, giving the 3D effect of the gallery wrap. Different pictures suit different styles depending on the subject, and how the photo is composed, so the canvases will be made up according to what best suits the individual photograph. If an order is placed for more than one picture they will be made up in a matching style. While all efforts are made to reproduce the colours on the website as true as possible to the final picture, there are always going to be variations in different monitor settings - but the prints will be very close indeed in colour to the picture you see on screen. Also bear in mind that the pictures have had to be reduced in size in order to be viewed properly on the website. Please have a look at the 'Ideas' page for some photos of the canvases in situ, and suggestions for hanging the pictures grouped together and in different combinations.

Ordering

For those ordering from overseas, when you order from this website I am going to have the canvases made up locally to you (or at least somewhere closer than here!), to reduce transport costs and reduce the risk of damage during transit from the UK. I would be grateful for feedback on the standard of service that you receive from these locally-sourced suppliers, as I will not necessarily have seen the results myself.

As each print is made to order, please allow 10-15 working days' delivery time. If you have a particular date that you need something by, please let us know so that we can endeavour to achieve that deadline. All canvases will be made up ready to hang.

Returns Policy

As soon as they have arrived, after careful unpacking please check your canvas prints and if your goods arrived damaged in any way, please return the picture to me within 7 days of receipt for either a full refund or to request a replacement item. (Overseas customers please contact me and I will tell you where they need to be sent).

Finally, thanks for your interest and for looking at my website - please feel free to contact me with any questions.
